REFERENCES AND GUIDES!

We all need a reference from time to time. On this page you will find some references I’ve created from full body poses, to eyes, hair, and heads! These are meant to give you a little inspiration and hopefully some help in practicing your journey in art and creating your OWN characters! Mix and match things you see, try something new, or just work on refining your skills! Good luck dudes! You got this! Now go draw away!

POSES!

Poses are very important in the world of drawing and creating characters! Poses can give your character more life outside of their emotions! Below are some simple Static(still and unmoving) and Dynamic(action or movement) poses! Click on one for a better look and try drawing some and notice that they’re all made up of shapes!

HEADS FACES AND EMOTION!

In the world of drawing characters, it’s always good to give them a head. I mean, they probably wouldn’t be alive without one. Anyway, below are some head angles, shapes, details and emotions to help out!

EYES!

Eyes can convey ALOT of emotion! Which one defines the type of character you want to create?

EMOTIONS

Emotions are very important as they tell you ALOT about the character! What emotions can you take and exaggerate for your character!? Think about how the eyes, eyebrows and mouth go a long way into adding to these as well as things like sweat and angry veins!

HAIR!

Hair is fun to draw! Especially if you’re character has it…Well hair comes in so many different shapes, textures and sizes that these doodles are a mere FRACTION of what you can do with hair! But why not mess around and see what you come up with. Some hair is fluffy and curly, some is course and straight. Some is angles and some is curved. Always think about how shape comes into play!

Detailed Characters!

Here’s a few detailed characters for reference below! Notice some are different styles than others. Some are human, and some aren’t! That’s because I think it’s good to experiment with different styles and subjects. Of course, at the end of the day I love drawing monsters and creatures. But I like drawing stylized humans and plenty of other stuff too! All drawing is practice for more drawing! These below are to help understand more details like clothing, wrinkles, creases, color, and how everything comes together to make a final character!

BACKGROUNDS!

Ah yes, the infamous backgrounds! Alot of people HATE backgrounds but they can be very fun to make! If you’re having problems making one, just think of a theme, weather or season! Mountainous, snowy, futuristic, city, forest, medieval, underwater, desert. Once you have that, think what sort of things are there? Below are a few doodles of backgrounds to give you a jumpstart! Use that imagination to make something cool!
